Our Take
Three antifungals in one bottle — climbazole, piroctone olamine and zinc pyrithione — is unusual; most anti-dandruff shampoos pick one and commit. More unusual still for an Indian pharmacy brand, Scalpe states the levels: climbazole at 0.45% and piroctone olamine at 0.5%, both comfortably inside the range where they actually work, which is more than most of the shelf will tell you. We'd be warier of the front-of-pack promise — “reduces dandruff in one wash” is footnoted to an IQVIA survey of 350 people who had used the shampoo at least twice a week for three months or longer, which is not a claim about one wash at all. The formula's real cost sits further down the list, where imidurea, a formaldehyde-releasing preservative, sits alongside fragrance, a Yellow 5 Lake dye and a menthol–menthyl lactate cooling pair, on a scalp that is by definition already inflamed. At ₹304 for 200 ml it is priced as a pharmacy staple rather than a treatment, and for straightforward oily-scalp dandruff that is fair value — though we'd move to something gentler once the flaking settles.
What we like
- ✓ Three antifungal actives rather than the usual one
- ✓ Climbazole and piroctone olamine levels actually disclosed
- ✓ Both stated actives sit at working concentrations
- ✓ Cheap and widely stocked in Indian pharmacies
Worth knowing
- → Imidurea is a formaldehyde-releasing preservative
- → Fragrance, dye and menthol on an already-irritated scalp
- → “One wash” claim rests on a three-month usage survey
- → Zinc pyrithione is in the formula but its level is not stated
