What it does
The workhorse foaming detergent in most shampoos and many face washes. Milder than its cousin sodium lauryl sulfate because the ethoxylation softens how aggressively it strips oil.

Cleans thoroughly, lathers richly and rinses clean — which is exactly what a medicated shampoo needs so the actives reach the scalp.
Concerns & Risks
Can be stripping on dry, curly or colour-treated hair with daily use. The ethoxylation process can leave trace 1,4-dioxane unless purified, though reputable manufacturers strip it out.
