Vitamin B5 10% Moisturiser

Weightless, fragrance-free gel with 10% panthenol — excellent value for oily and acne-prone skin, though its zinc-and-copper oil-control claim overreaches.

Is Minimalist Vitamin B5 Moisturiser good for oily skin?

Yes: 10% panthenol, a high dose, in a weightless, fragrance-free gel that suits oily, combination and acne-prone skin, at about ₹7 a gram. Do not count on its zinc, copper and magnesium for oil control, though: that evidence is thin.

Our Take

Ten per cent panthenol is a high dose — most moisturisers carry 1–5% — and here it sits third on the list, straight after water and a volatile silicone, which is why the gel feels almost weightless and leaves skin soft rather than slick. Around it are glycerin, betaine, sodium hyaluronate and allantoin, with no fragrance and no essential oils, so it is about as low-risk as a moisturiser gets for reactive or acne-prone skin. We'd be more sceptical of the “oil control with zinc, copper and magnesium” line: the mineral salts sit among the minor ingredients, and the evidence that topical gluconates control sebum is thin. The listing graphics also still name biosaccharide gum as a key ingredient, yet it does not appear in the ingredient list Minimalist publishes — an odd slip from a brand that sells itself on transparency. At an MRP of ₹349 for 50 g, about ₹7 a gram, the value is hard to argue with — under a third of Neutrogena's Hydro Boost per gram — though dry skin will need something richer on top.

What we like

  • ✓ 10% panthenol, a genuinely high dose
  • ✓ Fragrance-free and essential-oil-free
  • ✓ Weightless silicone-gel finish
  • ✓ About ₹7 a gram at MRP

Worth knowing

  • → Zinc, copper and magnesium oil-control claim is thin
  • → Listing names biosaccharide gum, which is not in the published ingredient list
  • → Too light to carry dry skin on its own
