What it does

A silicone that forms a thin, breathable film on the skin, giving creams their smooth, non-greasy slip and slowing water loss.

Benefits

Reduces water loss from the skin without the heavy feel of oils, softens rough texture and helps creams spread evenly. One of the few occlusives that suits oily skin.

Concerns & Risks

Very low irritation and allergy potential; the Cosmetic Ingredient Review panel considers silicones of this family safe as used. Some people dislike the slippery finish, and silicone-heavy layers can pill when stacked with certain products.
