L'Oréal Professionnel
Serie Expert Scalp Advanced Anti-Dandruff Dermo-Clarifier Shampoo
Salon-priced anti-dandruff shampoo built on SLES and a single, undisclosed dose of piroctone olamine — it works, but costs nearly twice Scalpe Pro per ml.
Is L'Oréal Professionnel Scalp Advanced good for dandruff?
It should help mild to moderate dandruff — piroctone olamine has good trial evidence — but it is a single, undisclosed dose in a sulfate base, at nearly twice Scalpe Pro’s price per ml.

Our Take
Under the professional branding this is a conventional sulfate shampoo — sodium laureth sulfate and coco-betaine — with one antifungal, piroctone olamine, at a level L'Oréal does not disclose. Piroctone olamine has genuine trial evidence against dandruff, so it should help mild to moderate flaking, but without a percentage it cannot be compared with Scalpe Pro, which states its doses and carries three antifungals at about half the price per ml. The “calming” is largely sensory: in the full ingredient list L'Oréal publishes on its UK site (the Indian pack's list was not available to us, though Amazon India's partial list matches it), the soothing feel comes from a menthol-derived cooling agent and fragrance, alongside the labelled allergens linalool and limonene and a blue dye — an odd mix for a scalp that is already irritated. The claims also shift by market: the Indian listing footnotes “up to 100% visible dandruff removed” to a clinical test on 60 people over four weeks, while the brand's UK and French sites describe their figures as consumer tests, and “approved by dermatologists” rests on a survey of dermatologists in China. It is silicone-free and avoids formaldehyde releasers, but at an MRP of ₹935 for 300 ml, about ₹3.10 a ml, you are paying salon prices for a pharmacy-grade formula.
What we like
- ✓ Piroctone olamine, an antifungal with genuine trial evidence
- ✓ Silicone-free, with no parabens or formaldehyde releasers
- ✓ Cationic guar for some conditioning without silicones
Worth knowing

- → About ₹3.10 a ml at MRP, nearly twice Scalpe Pro's
- → Standard SLES base despite the gentle, clarifying pitch
- → Fragrance, labelled allergens and a blue dye on a dandruff-prone scalp
- → Claim footnotes contradict each other across L'Oréal's own markets

What buyers report
Recent Amazon reviews are split on dandruff: some buyers say it keeps flakes away, while others find it cleans an oily scalp but does little for the flakes themselves. Satisfied buyers mention a light lather that does not dry the hair; the complaints are the price and, from one buyer, a strong scent, in keeping with its added fragrance.
